As I sip on my hot apple cider and apricot brandy drink, to get into the festive spirit of putting up my Christmas tree. I look over at my daughter bouncing in her jolly jumper and think, this year it means that much more! This is my first Christmas with my 8 month old daughter, and it just feels so awesome!! She sits here smiling, babbling, bouncing like she knows something great is coming. I remember when I was a kid and loved every minute of Christmas. The family, friends, happiness, food, and most of all the presents!!! I can't wait for Christmas morning for her first present. Its going to be amazing!!! So to those dads that know what I'm talking about, have a Merry Christmas!! And to those that don't have kids, some day you will understand...Oh and Merry Christmas to you guys too!

Being a dad is great...particularly on Christmas morning. But it can be exhausting too.
I usually have my wife make the coffee while I start reading the instructions

I have two offspring who long ago out grew Christmas. But as I look back, I see stages where we struggled and other times when things were good. The children were young when we were struggling and appreciated their gifts, as modest as they may be. But even in that modesty, their gifts were far and away superior to anything I ever received as a Christmas gift. As they grew older and their gifts became more expensive, there was more a sense of entitlement than gratitude. Such is the way of children.
But I have renewed hope. I thought I had birthed two infertile beings until my son finally stepped up and gave me a grandchild. Two years old now, just the right age to begin spoiling. It's a grandparent's constitutional right to spoil their grandchildren.
For those of you with young children, you have a world of joy and heartache ahead of you. For those of you who have grown children you already know what I mean. Just love them through it all and things will be okay.
Happy holidays!

This will my child's second christmas and he helped me put up the lights and the tree. The only thing different is I'm not putting the ordaments on the tree since he loves playing with the tree and I think Santa will just have to put all the presents on Christmas morning

Yes, I understand what you mean.
Christmas is for being with family and appreciating each other. And with kids of your own, it gets just so much better.
Last year we were even lucky enough to have the country covered in a thick pack of snow.
For presents we do a secret santa every year. Of course, everyone is allowed to buy something for our children, which are presently the only grandchildren in the family.Til shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.
