I was reading/told.. I have no proof at the moment! ;) That in Great Briton that they are choosing with a government insurance that Lasik is cheaper than glassed in the long run and that they are then covering the surgery rather than glasses. Am I correct?
From my experience glasses are not that bad and I would not want someone cutting or lazering something that is not necessary.
When my friend got it I was interested until I found out that one eye was for distance and the other for close up. That just doesn't appeal to me. Then the fact that it is not a permanent fix. Eventually you'll either need to do it again or get glasses again. Add to that the slight chance that you'll end up either worse off than you were before or totally blind ....... I kind of like my bifocals.
FDA doesn't have much work left to do if all they are there for is make America socialist. The current administration appears to be doing a fine job all on its own. I suppose every little bit helps though. :pQuote:

Branded many a calf, and burned the stumps after we de-horned the poor things. I've smelled a LOT better smells and a HELL of a lot worse in my 60 years. Burning cattle parts never bothered me. Doubt that the smell of 'em cooking my eyes would bother me either. But it ain't gonna happen this go around.
Like Jimmy said, $2500 will buy some more nice toys if I decide to use that way.

I had the surgery done in 1987, when the procedure was fairly new. The doctor that did my surgery was one of the first to do it here, in the US. He told me he learned from a Russian Doctor who did 20-30 operations a day. My Doctor lived in Russia for 4 months and was doing the surgeries with the Russian Doctor looking over his shoulder. He said they just lined them up and he went from one chair to the next, 6 days a week.
By the time he did my eyes he had done thousands. My eyesight was pretty bad, don’t recall what it was, but wore glasses or contacts all my life. My sight was corrected to 20/20.
A couple of years ago I started wearing glasses for reading and now night driving. Recently my eye doctor told me the surgery has improved dramatically and they can still improve my vision back to 20/20.
So I am thinking about doing it again. I think $2,500 is cheap, mine cost a lot more. Look for the Doctor with the most experience. I understand it is done now with laser and computers, mine was done by hand with a scalpel. Which is why they say they can improve my sight. Still, I would want a doctor with, a bunch under his belt.
I don’t recall what I paid, I think around 6K… It was worth it.

Got Lasik a few years ago. Love it. It's nice being able to wake up and see the alarm clock so I can hit the snooze button. I have had no degradation in vision since the surgery. My vision before the surgery was bad but did not change much. So I think my vision should stay around 20/20 for years to come. But shop around and make sure you are getting the best surgeon. I did not read the other comments so not sure if I am just being repetitive. The only down side is my eyes seem to get dry easier but I keep eye drops around. Good luck.
This is interesting, I'm as blind as a bat and my contact lenses have really been pissing me off lately. However, I keep thinking surgery will render me blind or my eyes will explode if I ever go up in a plane or something...

I have always thought about it as well but the chicken factor has always gotten the best of me. I started wearing glasses in like the third grade and being forty now I have thought about allot. Congrats to all that have had it done with success.
I have a friend that had it done a few years ago..he needs a re adjustment now for lack of a better term...he had not gotten that long ago..that makes me concerned.
Event one had different results tho.
I got LASIK in 2006, and I'm happy with it. It did make me light sensitive for life. Basically I traded my prescription glasses for sunglasses. I can't go outside past 9 am without sunglasses on. And I don't drive at night(pesky headlights). So, there were tradeoffs. This may seems simple, but it was great for me, because I was in a job that mandated eye protection at all times. It was a hassle wearing "prescription" safety glasses. I'm not sure why they can't improve those things. Anyways, now that I'm not required to wear safety glasses at all times, I don't care. My glasses didn't bother me at all. It was just those stupid RX safety glasses that I hated. And finally, it's not permanent. My surgery was free through my employer, so I was glad to get it. But if I'd have had to pay for it, I never would have gotten it.
