I have thought long and hard about this and decided that my station in life at my age is what I have become and will be. My wife was a stay at home wife while she raised our children and went to college in her 40's. She has a good job now and she said now it is your turn. Looking at the cost/benefit ratio for me it doesn't work out. I could make possibly more for a few years and then retire. Not enough to pay back my schooling. I am relatively happy with where I am and am hesitant because the grass is not always greener on the other side.
I have told my children to be careful of the difference between a job and a skill/profession. I see your point that many would want my job and I use the term job loosely but most of them don't have my skills.
