Put an app into a company that I wanted to work for. Got nothing as a response. Short time later I noticed a refrigerator magnet with the company's logo while lunching with a family from church. The wife worked there and put my name in for a different position. Been at the company ten years! I have the most seniority in my group (even more than my awesome boss) and am tied for low man on the totem pole. No, difference - I am still hourly and love my job!
