Some of us have been here for a little while. I believe that gentlemanly conduct is at least required of us all.

Your actions prove one of the problems with forums. Whether your posts are merely rhetorical or serious, how can we be sure? There is no body language to observe. No facial expression. IMO, you are perturbed because no one is reaching out to join you and your opinion. As I mentioned in an earlier post, you are certainly welcome to start your own forum where no rules exist, no censorship is allowed. You can be responsible for footing the bill and anything else that comes along. Then you can report back to us and let us know how things are going.

I think that it is a good idea to air what happened and Stigmata did start the thread. Josh referred to this as an extended family and even in a family discussion somebody may get a little ruffled. However, in a family, everybody generally cools down the next day. Somebody mentioned respecting an opinion. You may not agree with that opinion but you should respect it; just as that person should respect your right to disagree with his opinion.
I sincerely hope that all involved will return to this forum.

Social norms and rules aren't always "published." Observation of others' actions, and interpreting reactions can idetnify what is allowed and what isn't.
People remain on the outside of a community when they are incapable or unwilling to comply with the community's norms/rules.

You don't do that in personal conversation either. At least I don't.
People tend to feel strongly about politics and religion, and often will take disagreement personally.
That is also why I usually refrain from participating in political or religious threads.
Even though these topics get discussed only in the off-topic section, they influence the other forums because people might hold grudges or form opinions of each other, based on 'lively' discussions in the OT section.
