No do not get me wrong. My statement was not meant against guns or anything like that. I just cannot imagine any situation where i would need a gun here to protect myself. No matter prepping or prudent.
I do have a 9mm handgun and Mosin-Nagant rifle. I also have 7.62 attack rifle issued by the military.
Besides military use i never though about specially 'needing' them. Shooting in a gallery is fun and useful to maintain good aim. But by no means essential to survive. here in the military we have to pass shooting tests twice a year. With both pistol and rifle, against standing and moving targets.
Specially in some post apocalyptic scenario that some seem to get prepared it would be most important to know how to hunt without a gun. Our ancestors did it for thousands of years without starving to death. Imho i think it is more important to be familiar with the basic knowledge on how to do it and keep yourself physically fit.
Even if guns would be useful, maybe, but specially in some walking dead world you get short of ammo sooner or later. Propably too soon. You can't carry 100 000 rounds in your backpack but you can carry basics on living in the nature in your head.Last edited by Sailor; 02-21-2015 at 04:45 PM.

I was never talking of Post-Apocalypse- in fact just the opposite in the original post..
My original point was that what many call "Prepping" / "Survivalist" some of us simply call being Prudent...
Through the years since the first post people have taken the thread in different directions, but that was not what I was ever saying.. Read the very first post and I think it will be clear..
Just like the last post I made on "Homesteading" it is more a push toward more simplicity in life, not becoming a Total Homesteader from the 1800's without anything modern
Although some people take it that far I guess...Last edited by gssixgun; 02-21-2015 at 09:48 PM.

I'm with gooser on this one after surviving Southern California and getting out in one piece.
Glenn is right, it is prudent to be prepared and not act like a victim. I was a self preservation instructor in S. California and that included the "safe" use and handling of firearms.
Be smart not dead was what we tried to teach not shoot everything that moves but be ready for the worst, only then will you be prepared for the best. It's a beautiful day somewhere I hope!

Should the whole country turn into one long Lock Up Raw Extended Stay......you may find me wasting away, but as God is my Witness, I will be clean shaven and smell pretty. And, I suppose I'll throw some cowboy .45 ACP loads into my Colt 1917 revolver to keep the Biters away from my Bulleit Rye.

Be careful people. Do not stray into gun control discussion territory.
The rule still applies today.Til shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.
