What no one ever mentions anymore is that the U.S. spent $11 billion to win the Cold War, and most of that was financed via deficit spending. That is money the U.S. gov't. owes its own citizens. As far as I'm concerned, that's the backbreaker. Everyone blames Bush, Obama et al., yet everyone has seemingly forgotten that old bar tab.

I don't follow too closely up here, but it seems your government is trying to scare you into paying higher taxes....
There's no way Obama won't compromise, taxes are going up .... IMO.

What cliff? The deadline and limitations in law are their own making. It is all political gamesmanship. Longterm national fiscal responsibility is another matter. Will we elect some statesmen to the House and Senate that can set aside rigid ideology and party loyality and get their job done?
