Thanked: 983Years ago, I read a book called Runners Handbook. I believe it was a two volume handbook back them. I see there is still a version in print The Runner's Handbook: The Best-Selling Classic Fitness Guide for Beginner ... - Bob Glover, Jack Shepherd, Shelly-Lynn Florence Glover - Google Books . There are other books as well, Competative runners handbook etc. I used to run long distance/cross country and trained everyday. Fitness was complimented by cycling and martial arts. Those days are long gone now though... These days the only running I do is to the dunny or the beer fridge...

I try to do at least a marathon a year with a couple halfs inbetween (hopefully get in a triathlon this year). I would recommend not wearing anything cotton regardless on running distance. Definitely recommend going to a reputable running shop for shoes, and the body glide is also great. Other than that that i can't really recommend any training routines. Just my two cents
