Thanked: 8What a load of crap.
We've lost 2 very valuable members, stop slinging mud. Talk about shaving, razors etc or go to a gossip / arguement forum.

Gentlemen, now that enough time has passed for the tempers to cool, the thread is being re-opened. I'm not sure if I closed it sooner than necessary, and I'm sorry if I did. In the past we received criticism for letting a thread get way out of hand before shutting her down, I saw a potentially explosive situation and took immediate action. These judgement calls aren't easy to make and we're trying our best. This thread will remain open as long as it doesn't appear to be getting out of control. So let's all try to be civil.

You know, I have to say, I never really disagreed with the closing, other than on principle. I applaud the topic being reopened, but I don't really see what else there is to say on it, and I appeal to my fellow SRP-ers to let it die. I think we all know where each of us stands on the issue.
To close, I know there's currently a procedure review going on amongst the moderators: may I suggest that as a matter of policy, taking part in a discussion precludes one from moderating in it? This step alone would probably have prevented a lot of the issues we've seen so far, and would be a good way to keep things fair, I think. Of course, it would require a degree of moderation in our moderators

Thanked: 108I started this thread not knowing there was any issue of moderators participating while moderating and so on. I started it because I was feeling remorseful. I had been one of those giving Bill some stick for all his fulminating against Ilija the Spirit Guide and Lord Lerch. Those posts made me laugh even though I thought they went too far. The fact is, I miss Bill because he was such a personality and so funny, as well as being one of the most knowledgeable guys here. My politics are pretty different from his, but I'm feeling awfully guilty for giving him a hard time.
I also miss Lord Lerch. He's an intelligent fellow and there was no end to what you could learn from him.
But I didn't start this post in order to then start giving Ilija a hard time (!). The last thing I'd want to do. Let's follow the Sargeant's orders and let this die.
