Thanked: 983A fantastic blade he's made there mate. I was like him at that age, trying to make knives. I didn't have the machinery or the mentor to guide me (or a dad to urge me on either). My first knife was a dagger I made using some old rusted files to work the steel. Took days of labour. The next thing I made was a broadsword. I still have that, but I don't know what ever happed to the dagger.
Credit to your son for producing such a fine knife and credit to you for being such an understanding and encouraging father.

Thanks for all the positive feedback, fellas. Honestly, this is one of the best things he's ever done-there's so much potential there for this to become a real avocation, maybe even a career! (And yeah, I hope to eventually get a razor or two out of it.

By the way, if you want to see some of the works of art made by his mentor Ross Tyser, look here:

Thanked: 1184Your a great Dad for hooking him up with a mentor like that. He is doing great work and I bet you are going to have more to be proud of !
Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.

Beautiful knife. I love the size too. Your son is talented and I do hope he does go far in the knifemaking field.

Thanked: 995I've seen a lot of first timer knives that are much uglier. That knife is a reflection of how good a teacher he has. Nice lines, simple form and function, as it should be.
