Thanked: 220RMS Titanic
It just occurred to me, the Titanic met it's untimely end 101 years ago at 2:20 A.M. tomorrow morning, taking with it over 1500 souls. God bless all who perished. It's hard to believe so much actually still survives from the ship, after being at the bottom of the Atlantic for so long. It wasn't too long ago that First Officer William Murdoch's straight razor was recovered from the debris field in a leather toiletry bag. I guess the leather is the reason it survived. I've always held an interest in this ship, so I decided I would share a thought about it on the anniversary of it's sinking.

Thanked: 247Thank you for sharing. It is a spectacular (and horrific) story.
I enjoyed the movie also.

The event teaches a historical lesson about what can happen when folks put too much faith in their technology of the day.

Yes! I am interested in Titanic as well. A true tragedy. Can anyone find a picture of Murdoch's razor? Surely some fine specimens of antique razors lie there.

I rest my case.

Interesting that the horn and pins and lead wedge look pretty good, but the blade must have dissolved!

Doesn't make sense, the other contents of the bag were in good shape. There was also a shoe brush, Officer's uniform button, long johns, tobacco pipe, and even the original box that the razor came in. The uniform button should have dissolved as well.

Officer's uniform buttons where probably made from gold plated brass, the razor pins where probably also brass.
That the carbon steel blade dissolved was the reason the horn and wood survived in the bag, outside of it the would have been gone.Hur Svenska stålet biter kom låt oss pröfva på.
