    Lightbulb Poker Anyone?

I have basically been looking to get into poker for a while now and have started learning how to play it. TBH i do not earn enough money to start betting so will just be a hobbie more. Does anyone know any decent places to get chips and stuff in the UK, i am looking for the Clay Nevada chips but UK sites only sell the clay composite Nevada jacks. Anything to do with poker that you share will be sweet. Rich

I play in the play money rooms over at partypoker.com every so often. not as much as I used to because I really want to play for real but my budget adviser (wife) has deemed it a frivolous investment with far to high a risk/benefit ratio to be worth our time.

Go to google groups, and ask the question on rec.gambling.poker -- you'll find the best deals from reputable vendors.

You can't play poker without betting, but you can keep it reasonable by limitimg the maximum bet. Nickle and dime the night away and everybody can have fun and not be up or down more than a tenner or so by night's end. Make sure you have a 'money table' (people can buy in or out whenever they want without losing their whole stack) and don't just play texas hold 'em either. Hope you have fun.

yeah i think that will be the way to go tbh Xman but untill we learn how to playit will be stuck to fake money so to speak, i raise you 100 monopoly pounds,
I am not so sure about the big blind and small blind but then i have only tried running it with 3 people so seems a bit pointless maybe it will seem more apparant with a few more of us

Forget the blinds. That's a casino trick. Here's some different games. Start with 5 card stud and draw and branch out from there. Move on to pence as soon as possible. There's an important dynamic to the game which you won't get until there is real money involved, even pennies.

ok thanks very much for your help, I am looking to buy some nice chips and i have got a sample set of Nevada Jacks complete clay ones. but i am looking for somewhere i can buy 300 or so of these in the Uk if possible, becuase of Duty and so on.
But the only place that even stocks these are Nevada them selves and they have a 3month recall on them. Anyone know a mate who works there who could speed things up or if there is a UK seller somewhere? i know its asking a lot but i am really excited.

Also would you trust this site seems like it is a good price - http://www.apachepokerchips.com/index.htm

    Default Poker sites

Try looking at these sites. Lots of good info, reviews, etc.

There are hundreds of poker books, including many directed towards the new or low limit player. Of course, to really learn you have to get out (or online) and play. As was pointed out earlier, poker is a betting game, so if money isn't involved it just isn't the same IMHO. Have fun.

BTW, blind bets and/or antes are required because they put money in the pot for a player to win with an initial bet. Subsequent betting takes care of this but you need to offer odds for someone to justify making a bet. This is called "dead money". The same term is applied to a bad player with no chance to win because his bets represent money in the pot for someone else to pick up. In your example of a small game antes will work just as well.
