Thanked: 485One of my facebook groups posted:
NAME YOUR BEST MATE FROM THE ARMY,ill start all of them
And posted:
I didn't have a lot of 'mates' in the army, I never did before the army and never have after; I'm not that type of guy, however, there were a few guys I liked spending time with (among others).
Sharpie (he was SO funny, sort of like Bill and Ted before Bill and Ted)
Hughsey (so animated all the time)
Two Dads (an ARGG - All Round Good Guy)
Rosey (you knew you were going to have a good time when you hit the piss with him)
Hibbert (as above but more dangerous)
OD (Fun)
Petrie (ARGG)
Danny Searle (for an intelligent conversation)
Blackie (fun and as above)
Franko (fun and as above above)
Osram (entertaining to the n'th degree)
And all you other guys, thanks for the memories.
Still miss the army. Still sometimes dream I'm off on a bush trip tomorrow and haven't packed, or on guard and haven't ironed my uniform. Anyone else have dreams like that? Still consider the Vital ground when camping. Still think 'That'd make a good RBS70 site' as I drive from Port Augusta to Adelaide. Still relate all training strategies to army training. Still consider leading by example and putting yourself in your soldiers' shoes important. Still like to do the best at everything. Still like to tell people what to do. Still like using my Recruit Instructor voice. Still must iron the f**& out of shirts. Still must polish my boots every day even if they don't need it. Still like the memories.Stranger, if you passing meet me and desire to speak to me, why should you not speak to me? And why should I not speak to you?

Army Airborne, Military Police. I miss the cheap booze. And the mates. And the things that could only possibly happen in the army. I mostly forget the bad stuff or recall it in a way nothing else can be recalled.

Darn it got me terry eyed. Tc
