i can't process this...a 69 mustang is 44 years old? my aunt had a 67 with a six cylinder and 3 speed auto. it was the only car i've ever put into a 24 wheel drift, on a sandy road in a new development. i once drove my grandmother to cape cod in it, going 80 mph on rt 3 while the old lady sat back and smiled while the wind blew her hair around.

I'm surprised none of you motorheads mentioned that ALL of us more or less wrecked our first cars....You know it to be true, and something like that is going to hurt if you lose it. get the car,and learn your lessons on a cheap P.O.S., then you'll be ready for that Mustang. And a personal note to Jerry,My friends used to build the Can-AM corvettes, and Phase Three Camaros for Motion, and the turned out more 25Th anniversary corvettes than G.M......jus sayin....

I don't tinker with cars, so maybe I don't count, but I've never wrecked a thing. I got hit once (other guy thought a green light was a green arrow and took a left into me - shame he crushed his classic Merc convertible on my Civic...) but it was only cosmetic on my car. And driving responsibly doesn't mean driving like an old man, either.
That said, I think the gas and maintenance costs are good enough reasons to pass, unless you can afford it.
Also consider if you'd be willing to drive it in weather, let your friends in it, park it when you go out, etc.
