Wink Pipe Wedgie - Wostenholm in black horn fitted with brass

While I was on vacation, my father and I decided to look around at the antique stores. After looking through a bunch of razors, I spotted this one in the back about the third time I looked through the razors in a glass case. It is a near wedge 6/8 and I loved the original beat up and antique look it had to it. So I did some light sanding ensuring not to get rid of pitting, corrosion, and few scratches. I polished it up after a light sand and I think it cleaned up nicely while still having that "weathered" look to it. I did the scales in black horn with double stacked brass washers/pins. I also tried something I've never done before, and that is lining the wedge with brass. The wedge is also black horn, with brass lining to match pins. I also left the wedge a little wide so the razor would close deeper into the scales as opposed to mid-way as it did in the original scales.

On a side note, after I had pinned the wedge/brass liners and began sanding to get everything flush, the brass got fairly warm in turn causing the horn to become warm as well. I noticed that after this, the wedge pin and washers kind of embedded themselves into the horn a little bit. See the pictures and you will be able to see the light reflecting around the washers on the horn not as it should. But I'm happy with how it turned out, I'll use this as a learning experience and know to keep some water around when working with brass liners and wedges. Now I just need to get it honed up!!

    Cheers,
    Zac

That is a job very well done.
I love the fact that you kept the vintage look and patina.
    Great looking traditional scales too.

A job very well done. A nice addition to any collection. Like the brass enhancements on the wedge. A very nice "aged" look.
    Keep up the good work!!

    Nice Work!!

I would never have picked up on the 'fault' if you hadn't have pointed it out!

I always start out high on the sanding grit just to clean things up a bit just to see what lays underneath, and progress downward if I need to! I love the look of the blade!

    Good Job!

Good job! I too prefer the vintage razors to keep some patina, it adds character

I bet she shaves like a beauty. Nice, classy look! I would want a whole shaving set, steamer trunk and cigar ashtray in that style.
