Barber's Pet in Jade Ghost
Finished another razor before heading back to school. Standing a whopping 11/16 tall, this Simmons Hardware Barber's Pet is sure to cut a hair or two. Rescaled in jade G10 with a red G10 wedge, SS washers double stacked, and nickel silver pins. I did try to leave some of the age to it and leave it with a weathered look. Personally I like how each razor develops it's own unique look over time. The edge is corrosion/rust free, there was some on the toe end towards the spine, and also on the tang which I just lightly sanded and polished up. Now just have to introduce my new pet to the hones and see how well it performs.
The first three photos were taken outside in natural light and show the jades color more accurately. The last photo was taken inside and had more of a yellow color to it, which is why I decided to take the photos outside. Thought I'd mention this to share my experience and hopefully help others who may have a problem with colors not showing true in their photos.
Cheers,
Zac
The inside photo under a fluorescent desk lamp = more yellow color = yuck

Thanked: 603You're really putting me through some changes!
My immediate response was: The toe-pin is out of place. Why is the toe-pin out of place?! Then I saw the second photo, and the "bird" emerged. Wow! The toe-pin is a "bird's eye"!! (and the opposite end is its tail). Both ends contribute to an instantly-identifiable shape, in as pure and minimalistic a rendering as I have ever seen. Impressively so.
And then I thought: I don't like those scales with this blade. It feels dissonant... like fingernails-scratching-chalkboard. It's clean and respectful, creative and restrained; I appreciate the contrast between the 90-degree angles of the blade, and the economical curves of the scales; and yet, in some inscrutably-internal way, "it rubs me the wrong way." Maybe this is what "art appreciation" class is for. I'll stick with SRP.

You can have everything, and still not have enough.
I'd give it all up, for just a little more.

Your fit and finish looks great on the scales. Jade Ghost has gotten old with me, I will admit.
I would like to see you get some of the black rust off and go more conventional in design with the scales on a conventional blade like this, but I am old-fashioned!
As I said, Fit and finish, pinning looks great!
Don't pay me too much mind. I don't make scales and you do!
Do what YOU like!"Don't be stubborn. You are missing out."
I rest my case.
