Custom Gold Dollar #5 in single-piece nut scales
I really like playing around with these Gold Dollars! This time, I thought I would try my hand at some spine work. I did not fail too horribly
The scales are a bit large, the razor does not fit in my stand... Anyway, she's up for duty tomorrow morning, after which I will adjust the stand!
Here's a little peak into my room of photography, that also serves a purpose as a bed and two night lamps. After colour adjustment, the photos I take here look to me like they were taken with white light, rather than soft yellow
Thank you for watching and I look forward to your comments!I want a lather whip

Thanked: 13245I read the "How To Thread" you did on these scales too, and I have to say the difference in the looks of these scales compared to the thicker ones is awesome, these look sleek and the dimensions are dead on I really like these
Very good Job !!!!

Thanked: 1184The pics are great. That's the one thing I need to start practicing more.

Thank you for your kind words, guys!
I've 3 more GDs lying around. The nice thing is, they're so cheap and at almost 7/8" big enough to shape, so I use them to improve my skills before trying my hand at a special vintage blade. Sometime soon, I will put the GDs up on eBay and see if I can raise some funds for a Wade&Butcher or Dubl Duck, which I would really like!I want a lather whip

Thanked: 4249Very nice work on the scales! You can change the geometry add spine work, turn it into a wonderful shaver but in the end its still a gold dollar. There a ton of good quality blades available for cheap as well if your willing to work on them.

Other than the fact that GDs don't have the same charm as a vintage or the splendid looks of an engraved Thiers-Issard or Dovo, I enjoy them as much as I enjoy my other razors After all, working on them is relaxing for me and they give good shaves, and my girlfriend said "oooh pretty!" when I showed this one, which counts for something!
