The earliest i found with a relevance to razors was in 1791, about a broken partnership...

Many different entries till about 1820-30's, seems like Mr Sayles had a few bad partnership in his lifetime.
Thank you Martin for the kind words...I knew you could suss it out! Very interesting that 'Sayles' was a partner of G. Johnson...I have several of the G. Johnson razors and they are some of my favorite's as well. Although it could of course be a different "George Johnson" than the one we are familiar with ( Hammer and 7 star makers mark) it would seem that it is indeed the same "G. Johnson", and a cross check of information would probably reveal the truth of it.

The information that you provide could indicate that this indeed was possibly from the reign of George III (prior to 1820 as Richard indicates with his post). It is always an amazement to me that you have the ability to resource this amount of information...

    Thanks again!

BTW ... It is a 'wickedly good ' shaver...but what I like the best about it and others from this era, is that when I look in the mirror with this razor in my hand, I realize that I am shaving with the same razor that someone else used over 200 years ago. It's an amazing feeling to be that connected to history!
