Thanked: 2284New scales for a Joseph Elliot
I got this Joseph Elliot a couple months back from an antique store I frequently visit. It was in some buffalo horn scales that were badly bitten and unsalvageable. So I decided to make some scales out of a blank of Pau Ferro I had. I really like how they turned out. 4 coats of Deft marine teakoil, and an African Ebony wedge. The blade I didn't touch with any sandpaper, as you can see by the massive amount of fine pitting. I hit it on the buffing wheels and then some Autosol polish. I think it gives this blade character and makes it fit into the "Rustique" category, which I'm kinda diggin these days, or... maybe I'm just lazy
.
I've also been playing with my two small Coticules a lot these days and I'm really loving the soft edges I've been getting from them. So of course this one got that edge too. The first shave was awesome. This one I'll be throwing into the rotation for sure.

Thanked: 1184While I like to polish the heck out of my Ducks, I have found the older ones almost demand to be left alone as much as possible. Nice work !
Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.

Thanked: 15I have to agree... excellent work with the scales. Good shape, nice dull luster to them. Nothing real flashy, and the blade... well I'm with you. I like a bit of patina, reminds me that what I'm holding is old and should be treated with respect... shiny new blades come and go, but a nice patina... that takes years of work...

Thanked: 2209The rustic appearance on those old wedges appeals to me also. Nice work.
