9/8" GB anchor
I bought this big 10/8" GB a few weeks ago for €7,50. It had a big chip in the edge and the scales were shot. Otherwise normal rust/patina, so I set to work to repair the edge, buff out some of the rust and make new scales out of (what I think is) rosewood that I got from a friend. Bone wedge, SS washers, NiAg pins.
After about 5 tries, I still cannot get an edge on this razor (see http://straightrazorpalace.com/honin...hor-razor.html). I'm getting close, but it doesn't shave, yet...

Can't tell you how to best hone it! That would be better left to the pro's. But it is an awesome razor! Nice restore!!

Hahaha! Yes, due to playing competitive hockey all through my youth and through University, my left shoulder, along with my right knee, get's stiff frequently, and I don't always have good rotation, to many times pounding myself and others into the boards, doing my ATG pass on the right side of my neck can hurt, or cause some strain. With the bigger blade, it's much easier for me.
Again, great work!

Nice job. I had one like that I picked up off the bay. Then the work started. Honed a chip out from 9 to 8/8. There was also some deep pitting in the bevel and I had to get past that too. Grueling work. I don't know about 'soft' but it was not easy to get it to shave ready. I finally , after many hours, got it shaving well. Put it in the classifieds and it found a new, and fortunately happy, home.

Laurens, beautiful razor!
I've been intrigued since your first "softy" post. The question I had for you and the greater membership is this:
Why has this brand razor been placed on the list of razors to avoid?? Honing difficulties??

Yeah, Jimmy. You HAD me.(nyuk nyuk)
I was wondering why the stark contradition between going prices on ebay for a GB and the brands to avoid listing.
I'm really glad you cleared that up for me. You won't know unless you ask, right?
