Thread: Union Cutlery Spike

This evening , in between emails and posting with you guys, I managed to do this piece. Had you not kept me so entertained I could have done another razor!
I wanted this for a friend and do it as a straight up restore. I broke it down ( this was black from head to toe and some pitting) and did the usual clean up. Now at times I push the limits on polishing a blade. Some times it's me, sometimes a client wants it but this was different.
I have quite a few of these in my collection and comparing the texture on the blade vs. the shaft I tried to recreate what I saw on my more pristine pieces. For example. I polished out the shaft removing all traces of rust and pitting. Fine. But! The factory pieces didn't look this way all polished to a mirror. Shiny I'm sure,, but not mirror. So I put the scratches, or grind marks back in the shaft and repolished it to get the proper look. Same for the blade itself. The other examples weren't polished so I did the same style of grind/sanding marks and recreated them as close as I could which required some sanding, and then some polishing to get just the right look. And removed some of the hone wear that was there.
The scales were straight forward. Sand , polish inside and out and they were done. just popped out of the mold sort of look.
The originals have silver colored pins and washers so I did the Nickel and stainless to try and keep true to form.
Wasn't sure about paint in the logo so I left it as it was. I can always do that if I can find what the color was. Even so ,, it looks like a nice old razor that was well kept.

Thanks! I can push them too far at times but that's what some want. I wanted this to be as close to factory as I could make it. Not a lot of "bling" factor but just as challenging if not more so in many respects .

Great job. Wyobarbershop has a few of these and may be able to give an idea on the color of the stamping.
