Thanked: 1184I have wondered about this and looked at a bunch for traces of something that would distinguish the tang from the rest of the pack. Goldedge , Wonderedge, Special no.1, Handforged, all have their special tangs. I love your idea but all I have ever found besides plain is black or red .

I've never been able to afford a Dubl Duck in ANY condition but I love your passion (and 10Pups's too !!)
and your efforts to bring these superb razors "back to life" always make me smile.

I could post stuff till I'm blue in the face.
But don't give up hope on finding one of these. I can't afford them either ( seeing the prices some are commanding ) so I basically stole these.
The Satin edge featured here I got for $7.00. Came in a lot of 67 razors I bought 2 weekends ago. The NOS,, in the box, labels and all, don't think it was honed,, was $35.00. And what was my 'user' Goldedge which is now restored and replated was $15.00. So a grand total of $57.00 for theses three isn't all that bad considering what they might bring if I decided to sell them. I'll bet you I could double my money easily! LOL,,,,

Well maybe it was black. But I picked the blue because it's "in the family" sort of thing. Easy enough to change. But the 3 different sets of advertising literature that some members sent to me clearly said " Satin Shaft" ,,and if you look as I said at my before shots you can see what looks like faded bluing stopping at the stabilizer and most likely where the rust blob is just the the Gold on the Goldedges. I used them for reference.
Now on another site a guy just sent me photos of his DD's. Wouldn't you know they used this same satin finish on others.
But what is driving me crazy now is the literature said " Gold on the tip". What does that mean? Where? I'm sure somebody out there has an example and if so ,, I'm breaking it down again to Gold plate it.
Hey, I did my other razors.
Here are the few I have for reference. first shot shows the re plated one.

Thanked: 1184Tip of the tang ? My Goldedge has blue letters on one side and the other worn. Most of the surviving gold plate is on the tip of the tang. My Satinedges do have the light sanded look on the tang but very faint. Most of my Ducks went right into ICU when I got them. I have a Blue Jinx and a Gold Manderin and no idea what they looked like original. I am sure the scales have been replaced on both. I am going to do what I do to both of them soon.

I was thinking the end of the blade somehow but where would it terminate. Yeah, that is a distinctive blue they have. I use Testors enamel mix to duplicate it.
Do a bit of research on the others. You'd be surprised what you find. Or post them and ask if anyone has any reference. I'm doing a J. Rodgers that a guy wanted me to " hot rod" . Sorry,, not a blade like this marked "Cutlers to their Majesties" in pristine shape but missing scales. Found some photos showing the blade with the proper shape scales on it. Cool.
could you post some pics of the razors you mentioned? I just love this stuff and trying to figure it out. Besides the porn value as well!
Just the name "Gold Mandarin" sounds intriguing. I'm looking for another Japanese/Chinese razor to do more carved Ivory motifs. Better yet, don't show me or I'll bug you till you sell .

Thanked: 1184Okay I just looked and seem to have misplaced a whole years worth of pictures. I have been meaning to make a duck folder but never got around to it. I will soon.
Here are some quick shots off the bench. They are on the bench for total restore and all Ducks you won't see everyday. And I haven't found much info on them in Google searches. Couple of posts in SRP but that's about it.
I brought some life into this one with testors and learned to be very careful with paint on old scales. Taking off the excess is more like , don't have any excess or else. I was sweatin' bullets sanding the red off that didn't want to let go of the scales.
I have another odd ball but just couldn't find it. Specialwedge from same Bresnick era.
Too me the ducks almost beg for a hot rod mod. I hate to think of them rotting in the old cell and I basically look for ones that need it. I have tried to keep a few all original but 2 are showing signs of coming out of remission . Operating room STAT !
Oh ,and I hate to see a grown man beg so know this...NOT FOR SALE :<0)Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.

That's no problem , They just sounded interesting and wanted to take a peek. Wasn't familiar with the Mandarin not realizing it was German.
Bought quite a few a couple weeks ago and have bids on you don't want to know how many again. Yeah, like I need more. Well actually , Yes I do!
