Alwin/Ontario Resto
"Ontario Cutlery Co. Geneva NY is stamped on the pile side of the tang (usually) and they were made between about 1920 - 1935."
This SR has a blank back side of the tang so not sure if that makes it older or newer in the date range. ??
This was one of those happy coincidences... I picked this SR up with a bundle deal and it was in grungy, rough, dirty as heck and so I set it aside trying to decide whether to just clean and hone or pop and fully restore. I didn't look anything up about it prior and hadn't heard the name Alwin before so decided to just start working on it and see how it turned out and as I was working on it noticed it seemed to be really nice and ultimately gave it the full treatment.
The highlight of this resto was MicroMesh which is newer to me... I had been using it but just tentatively thinking if I put more oomph behind it I'd mess something up but this time I started on the inside of the scales and worked more persistently then, when it turned out nice, I used the same technique (I used a 45 degree opposing angles vs 90 degree) on the outside and they came out really nice though I left some of the deeper scratches in place as I always feel a bit conflicted about taking something that has done so much work and making it 'too pretty'. ;-)
The other success was the pivot was a bit off as I was peening so I was able to adjust that just by peening opposing sides to push the blade in the right direction which was much more successful than previous times!
She honed up beautifully and shaves like a dream!

CLEAN!
"Don't be stubborn. You are missing out."
I rest my case.
