Custom 10/8 in Horn Big Cleaver Hole
Hello Gents,
Here is one that I just finished up. Carved this one out of a 3/4 piece of o1 bar stock. The spine is 3/8 with a blade width a touch over 10/8. I have a good hollow in this one but with the thick spine it gives it a very wedge like appearance. Scales are horn, translucent with a glassy finish. The wedge is Corian dark brick speckle. Stainless fasteners with a large meat cleaver hole. The blade grind, spine and tang are like mirror near imperfection free with a clean brush on the point and top of the tail. Lower jimps filework, rounded spine with a gradual transition to a squared off tang. For the pivot I switched it up a bit and used a counter sink on the washer along with a taper shank, flat hex head 2-56 screw. BTW the stand was an after thought. I had this piece of horn hanging on my shop wall for years and finally decided to whip up a razor stand. I used the lid from an old wooden slide case and the round concave brass backing of a WW2 medallion. The horn was full of dirt but polished up great.
Thanks for looking!
Happy Holidays
Best Regards, Ken

that's a beauty,,,I bet you could easily mount a brush that would fit nicely into that open end of the horn, the way that horn is shaped, the brush, partially inserted, would drain properly.
