Thanked: 40ERN Crown & Sword "New York Magnetico" 7/8 in Wenge
Over the past few months, I obtained a few razors with cracked scales, and I have been trying my hand at make replacement scales. The first few turned out okay and are functional, but it was not until the most recent project that I finally made something that I am proud of.
I purchased a razor labelled as "New York Magnetico" of a Ebay with a cracked scales, but I noticed on closer inspection that the razor was actually a large Crown & Sword. Here are the before pics below:
I did not realize how huge the blade was until I received. It measures at good 7/8! I thought such a large German blade deserved some nice wood and some largish scales. So I selected Wenge, sanded it all the way up to 12000 grit, and polished the wood with a jeweler's rouge type compound on a buffing wheel. For the blade, I just hand sanded it from 220 to 12000 to get it a clean, mirrorlike shine. For pins, I used microfasteners and the associated screw/washer. I used both a silver and gold colored washer for a little contrast. I filed and peened the washer and the bolt to give the fasteners a more "pin-like appearance". Here's how it turned out.
This bad bad honed and stropped up to a really smooth shave!
By the way, I searched all over the place, and I could find not information on "New York Magnetico"? Does anybody know anything about this brand/model?
