    The kind of hole you're talking about is only really seen on modern razors. Holes only became the small round pinholes with modern manufacturing; on older razors, the smith would punch out the hole during forging. Generally, the holes could be quite large compared to the holes in the scales, and sometimes even square; they are highly irregular.

    Progressive sanding then polish.
