I feel conflicted when I look at this work. I love to share knowledge and techniques I feel we grow as a community the more we know, but as an artist I am uneasy about sharing my style. When I look at a custom razor be it a Max, Buddle, Williams, Alex, Kenny, Harner, Ellis, or Chandler I can tell who made the razor from their style. When I look at this razor I see a myself. I hope the person that made this develops a style and name of their own. He definitely has the talent.
Respectfully, Charlie

Agree with Charlie on this.
It looks like a fine razor, very nicely made indeed. But it is a direct copy of the work and design of Charlie, that does not make it an ugly or bad razor, just not very original.

Charlie.. Owning two of your razors and now having this one in my collection I do see a similarity. But at the same time why side by side you can for sure see a difference. Not to mention all three feel and shave so different. I'm just lucky to have some crazy razors from some amazing builders. It's been awesome to experience so many different customs.

HEY! You forgot someone!
I agree with you though. I think it is important to develop your own style. Make what you think is right, instead of copying a style. Of course, there can be similarties in the blade. An 8/8 meatchopper tends to looke a certain way for example. It is hard to make one that is radically different, but it is true that there is still enough variance that personal style is identifiable. And I admit that with this blade I thought of Charlie.
The big exception I make for copying is vintage. I think it is ok to copy razors that are no longer made. Someone asked me to make a lookalike of a certain vintage sheffield. If you want one and they are no longer made by the original company, that is like playing a piece by mozart without having to pay royalties to mozart
Btw, while I do like the look of this razor, imo the bevels are too wide for a new razor. The razor should have been ground thinner near the edge to insure that in the coming years / decades it can be honed regularly without getting very wide bevels. Other than that I think it's a good looking blade.Til shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.

I think you nailed it. I had a custom made to replicate a Wade&Butcher even know I have a WB but it was nice to see it come from the hands of a custom builder. I also believe why finding out what you can make with your own two hands is a true art, to pull inspiration from a current builder or a past project hell I would take it as a complement .

Man the shave this razor is producing I'm just stunned. Performance, weight and overall smoothness is remarkable... My hat is off to this Gentalmen. I see myself picking up another one.
Keep it clean Gentalmen... Enjoy that weekend
