Default New File Razor and Stand

I made this awhile ago from a file but never posted pics. It is ground from an old file un-anealled, it took all day to grind. The taper of the handle is the file tang and the handle is deer antler. I said I'd never do it again but recently started the second one! It is very comfortable in the hand and shaves acceptably. I believe the edge to be a bit brittle from being too hard. The stand is cedar and redwood. All in all, a decent first attempt with lots of room for improvement.Name: DSC04150.jpg

Rob, first a brush and now a razor! You really need to get a good workshop set up. Does this razor have a Western or Japanese edge? It looks like a wedge. What else are you waiting to unveil on the SRP membership? Good work!

Thanks Richard, and I'm glad the brush works for you, but I miss it!
This is a western, symetrical grind. It is not a wedge as I grind on an 8" fine wheel set up to travel at very low speed. It is my setup for sharpening planes and chisels, not ideal for razor grinding but workable with lots of care and patience. So at a 4" radius what would that be called? 1/4 hollow perhaps or 1\2 I'm not sure of how the terminology works. Had at it with a Norton 220 waterstone and then to a Japenese 800, back to the grinder to straighten things out then to the Norton 4000/8000. Wish I had something in between the 800 and 4000. Finalized on a homebrew hunk of redwood pasted with Crox, I call it my poor man's finishing stone.

In my limited knowledge I'd call it a 1/2 hollow. You should get a King 1000 for bevel setting. That's basically what I've been getting from all the posts I've read on honing. I only refresh my edges with a Swaty, crox on linen and a lot of clean linen/leather stropping (50-75/100-200). Just got a Chinese waterstone, I think a 12k. Curious to see what that does to a refreshed edge.
