Thanked: 68Damascus and Ironwood
Finally got some time in the shop after a long absence. Wanted to keep it simple, didn't have any razors left for immediate sale so wanted to have one just in case. As always it seems hard to think of giving them away once I get it finished, maybe I'll just keep it.
Blade is Alabama Super Nickle Damascus, Half hollow 5/8, overall about an inch.
Scales are Desert Ironwood, wedge is buffalo horn, brass pins, stainless washers.
Thanks for looking!

Thanked: 203Lovely work. How do you find the Alabama steel? It does look excellent, but does it perform well?
Regards,
Adam

Thanked: 68The Alabama Damascus is made here in the states by a growing operation, it's been in use in the knife making community for quite some time here in the states. I've never heard a bad review about it and has the right mix of metals to be a very good working steel. I actually got the chance to meet the owner of the company at a recent show I attended and he was a really good guy and told me if I ever had problems with the product to call him directly.
This is only the second razor I've made from it. So as far as the longevity of the material, I can't comment on... at least at this time. It does sharpen up beautifully though, that I can say. Tonight it's going to get its first test run, and if it holds up over the next couple weeks like it should I'll be looking to unload it, but with it being a newer steel to me I want to make sure it performs first. I hardened and tempered it to right around 60 HRC which should be a good number for this steel. But only one way to find out, put it through the paces.
With as dense and oily as the iron wood already is I just put a few coats of danish oil on (it hardly even took one coat actually).Last edited by wynndow; 02-24-2014 at 04:25 PM.

Wow
I love the blade.
The scales accentuate the blade very well.
