Cool Mappin Schilling Razor in Purple Heart: Set of 2

I was gifted a very nice razor box made in Purple Heart from a friend here at SRP...kudos and many thanks to "RoyalCake". It was so nice that I felt it needed to be used for something special rather than just 'sticking a couple' of random razors in it. I thought about it and decided to refinish a matched set of 'Irish Point' Mappin Schilling Razors in matching Purple Heart.

Normally, I try to do vintage restores including original scales but both of these blades had unrepairable scales so they just seemed perfect for this project. Both of the blades are 13/16 near wedge Irish Point profile blade, and I am doing a 'two-toned' finish: satin blade face and high polish tang and spine. Like every other Mappin that I own, they are simply outstanding shavers.

Anyway... ... I've completely finished one razor and the box, so I decided to post a few pics now with an update of 'complete set' photos when the second razor is finished. I was just too happy with the results so far to wait to share the results. These are the very first set of scales that I've made and I'm proud to say that I think they came out pretty good, and when the complete set of 2 is finished I think it will really be a keeper for my collection.

Oh yeah... (this is for you Martin and Tom! ) I pinned the razor with a very simple single washer look in brass. I wanted the pins to be 'just there' without distracting too much from the look of the razor and box.

Hope you like it so far...more pics to come when complete.

I like it all very much. The box is beautiful and you did a great job on the rescale and restoration. Very nice. Congratulations.

The razor and box are an excellent match. Nice work by both parties.

Excellent set of first scales! There is only one simple word I can think of to describe the box and razor.....'outstanding, fantastic, beautiful'! OK, so that was 3. There is no one word....................

Now that's a nice looking set! Great job on those scales. I've heard good things about the Mappin razors. Can't wait to see the pair.

    Thanks Tom!

It's hard to tell from the pics...that's what happens when you 'crop' a photo and you're not a photographer. The photos make it look like a square point, but the toe actually extends forward slightly into a French or Irish point, although not quite as pronounced as this diagram.

    Square point/Irish point...either one it's a great shaver!

Indeed points are up to interpretation! Either way, Mappin's shave with the best! You picked a good pair for this!
