Mappin Schilling Razor in Purple Heart: Set of 2
I was gifted a very nice razor box made in Purple Heart from a friend here at SRP...kudos and many thanks to "RoyalCake". It was so nice that I felt it needed to be used for something special rather than just 'sticking a couple' of random razors in it. I thought about it and decided to refinish a matched set of 'Irish Point' Mappin Schilling Razors in matching Purple Heart.
Normally, I try to do vintage restores including original scales but both of these blades had unrepairable scales so they just seemed perfect for this project. Both of the blades are 13/16 near wedge Irish Point profile blade, and I am doing a 'two-toned' finish: satin blade face and high polish tang and spine. Like every other Mappin that I own, they are simply outstanding shavers.
Anyway...... I've completely finished one razor and the box, so I decided to post a few pics now with an update of 'complete set' photos when the second razor is finished. I was just too happy with the results so far to wait to share the results. These are the very first set of scales that I've made and I'm proud to say that I think they came out pretty good, and when the complete set of 2 is finished I think it will really be a keeper for my collection.
Oh yeah... (this is for you Martin and Tom!) I pinned the razor with a very simple single washer look in brass. I wanted the pins to be 'just there' without distracting too much from the look of the razor and box.
Hope you like it so far...more pics to come when complete.
