    Default Great Grandfather's Case/Temperite - Restored

My father and I spent some time together in his wood shop this weekend restoring my great grandfather's Straight Razor. Not bad way to start Spring Break.

First attempt at a straight razor restoration.

Before. Scales warped and shrunk. Resting on the piece of Purple Heart we made the scales out of.

After. Burnished purple heart scales finished with 4 coats of tung oil. Used the original wedge and spacer in the center pin. Polished blade and re-pinned.

I'm pleased with the result and had a great time in the shop with my dad.

Not completely sure, but we are thinking between 1900 and 1920. Someone else on the site may know a little more about the dating.

Yes. I used a small butane torch and then lightly sanded it to the color I liked. It is just a darker purple in the sunlight, not black. Looks great.

I have 3 W.R. Case & Sons that had those same scales, one is a temperite, and they were all shrunken like that...
