Two new recruits found at an antique shop
Bought for 30 bucks total. An old Torrey 9/16 with barber notch and an old German made razor that is around 11/16. Both were pretty oxidized, pitted and rusted.

Used 120, 220, 320, and 400 grit to clean these up by hand.
Some pitting remains but not bad. Looking to pick up some 600, 1200 and 1500 paper this week.
I tried sharpening them on an oilstone and a balsa strop followed by a lengthy leather strop, but they need to be reset on a 4k, 8k and finisher. All in all not bad so far for a first time restore.

Thanked: 3215Nice find. 120 seem a bit aggressive. I start with 000 steel wool and WD40 then 600, drop down to 400 and unless there is heavy pitting go no coarser, just more time.
There is a balance and price to be paid for coarser grits sub 400. Yes you can removing pitting but will spend as much or more time removing the stria. I try to remove as little steel as possible, especially with thin grinds.
600, 1&2K grits will get them shining.
Nice razors, you will be surprised how much age 000 steel wool and WD40 will remove.

Two more done. Bought em both for 40 bucks at an antique shop. The Wosty was chipped and oxidized pretty bad. Good amount of pitting on the Imperial. Sadly lost some of the "extra hollow ground" etching.
However the Wosty ended up honing nicely and giving me my best straight shave yet!
