F.Fenney / FWE Silver Steel
I'm reposting the F. Fenney since my last got deleted (active eBay listing) but I am happy to report that it is sold. The other is a FWE "Silver Steel". The Fenney was in pretty rough shape. The blade and tang were pitted badly enough that I could feel the divots when I ran my fingernail over them. I worked it with a greaseless progression. The edge looked good when I got it but once the pitting started to give way, so did the edge. Fortunately not much of the original blade width was lost. I will apologize again for polishing up the blade as much as I did. I was told by a member here that it made them cringe. I prefer a satin finish on the older blades but I didn't plan on keeping this for myself and shiny sells. The scales are black horn with a lot of white veining in them. The wedge is faux ivory and the pins are stainless bulls eyes.
I planned on just using the original tortoise shell scales that came with the FWE but while I was tightening the pins I pressed down too hard on the wrong area and cracked them. I had a sheet of ALVS that I was planning on using on a different project but I decided to practice with this blade. I'm glad I did. I learned a lot about ALVS. Very, very difficult stuff to work with when compared to wood or horn. The blade only needed a little bit of rust removal and some minor polishing. The wedge is the same as the Fenney and the pins are brass "cat-eyes".
