Thanked: 2First rescale in ivory
Attachment 164908I am about 3 months into starting straight shaving so I bought an Ebay razor with bone but did not like the weathered bone that it came with. Although the tang had some rust pitting I thought I would be happier with some nice scales. Bought some raw ivory from cue-components.com and cut and sanded and polished till it shone like a mirror. Bent my first pivot pin peening too hard but with more patience I pinned again more successfully. The you tube videos were very helpful. The only problem I have now is that when the razor is seated within the scale it likes to slide up about 1/4 inch higher than seated. I also polished the interior of the scale to 1500 grit and think this might be too slick to hold the steel in place. Otherwise I am happy with the turnout and hope the razor is still as sharp as it was before hand. I covered it in masking tape prior to all this. Thanks for looking. Kevin C.

Thanked: 4826If you are saying that you razor creeps open a little bit after you close it, that usually indicates an issue with the wedge. It is usually a tad thin when it does that. I do love the ivory. Nice job.

Thanked: 2Thanks Rezdog. It does in fact creep out a little. It probably is the wedge, that does make sense.
