Custom 9/8 Razor, Shark and Awe!
Good Evening,
Here is a custom razor that I recently finished up for one of our fine members known here on SRP as, PFunkDaddy. I enjoyed this project and would like to thank him for his amiable manner and providing much food for thought which helped lay the groundwork for this theme. I named it SHARK AND AWE. It was my intention to show something very fluid and real looking but at the same time maintain superb function and handling for the straight razor. The shark razor is meant to look suspended in a wave on the attack. I tried to incorporate a variety of small details into each piece to provide dimension color and depth. The simulated wave is a custom designed and colored resin which has a bubbled texture. It swivels on the main brass beam a few degrees either way to show a different position of the shark in the picture. The razor is meant to look totally suspended like in the water. I accomplished this with a discreet rod frame designed to be hidden by the body of the razor while on the stand. 1/8" holes in the teeth and tail hold it in place. It simply glides on for rest or off for use. The razor scales are also a custom color that I had made especially for this razor because I was not able to capture it with any stock materials. The blade is 9/8+ hollow ground with small details here and there that I felt fit this theme. I could keep going, but I'll shut up, lol Many thanks for having a look
Have a great Mothers Day Weekend!
Best Regards, Ken

I think the whole object is beautiful. Did you consider putting a small dorsal fin of the spine of the razor? (It would probably ruin it, but just asking...)
I love the smell of shaving cream in the morning!

Many thanks to Ken for facilitating a laid back yet very professional attitude during the project. He is a true gentleman and it was a great experience for me personally.
Make no mistake, I had next to nothing to do with the concept of the razor. I like White Sharks - I'll take credit for that. I've gone cage diving off the Farallon Islands out west of S.F. looking for some of the biggest ones in the world.
But that was not even the crux of my 'idea' when I initially contacted Ken.
My idea was...well, I didn't really have any ideas.
I simply sent a list..actually a laundry list...in reality, it was a rant with what I figured was way too much information after I sent it. I've been blown away by Ken's work. Totally unique. As a result, I had no idea where to start. My only other input was that I was flexible; open to the conventional and the unconventional alike as long as the razor fell within a certain range of blade size.
Ken somehow gleaned an idea from my ramblings, a seed of something. His creative constitution cultivated that seed into this tour de force. The ability to envision a piece that could be sold along side the $2000+ art-deco glass jelly-fishes at the Monterey Bay Aquarium from what I wrote is beyond me.
I'm still trying to wrap my head around the piece.
Do I even use it? Well, yes. Of course I will. That one was easy to answer.
Will my wife even notice that it is a razor? Ah, an unintended benefit of having such a unique piece .
"Oh the shark? Yeah babe, it's a gift from my donation to Iemanya Oceanica last year. A unique piece isn't it? Oh, yeah sure, we can put it on the credenza next to the glass jelly-fish"
(JK...I don't own any of those glass jellies. They are gorgeous. But I'm sure you are aware of how many high-end vintage or custom razors I could get for one of those.)
The man is an true artist and master handcraftsman. It was a true pleasure.Piyush
