    Default Hill "Blue Steel" refresh

This old girl was a bit tired. Needed a day at the spa. Can't reverse age, but she got a going over to bring her up to speed.
Didn't want to destroy the patina of her old "bones" in the form of scales so I took care of the scratches, etc. and they look period correct. Saved the patina at the same time. Nothing looks worse than a full on face lift on an aged razor. Same for the blade. Couldn't do a full on mirror finish to detract from what she is. A classy old gal.To me she still exudes a warmth that is fetching somehow.

First three are before, last three after. She looks about the same,, just refreshed!

It is a personal thing, but when they can be done like that I love it,
when they can't well all is fair in love and restore...

    Thanks for understanding guys.
Restraint is the better part of valor,,, or the buffer.

Which isn't part of a restoration in my book.

But I too occasionally stray. It's the nature of the business and what clients want. But sometimes they just say.
    Do what's right.

    And I'm happy too.

    It is not an understanding,
it is an appreciation and admiration at least from me,
I can build a new book shelf to look new in just a bit more time and with less effort overall than saving an average vintage one.
But it will never have the history, warmth, or character,
It is a labor of love.

    Bingo!
You sound like a guy after my own heart.
I don't restore razors for the clients benefit. I do it for the razors benefit.
I'm a wood carver. I think I was born in the wrong century with the way I make a living doing Architectural carvings.
Living in the computer age making a living with a mallet and chisel. Recreating the old ways.Restoring statuary, churches, as well as recreating the look for new homes.
Shaving with some razors from the 1800's. I think Fountain pens , and dip pens ( I restore them too) are just too cool. I listen to nothing but classical music. It just fits with what I do.
Vestiges from days gone by. And here I am. Happy and content. Making it work.

    You under stand,
I was a contractor back up north, I was known for both my tile work and my restoration of Victorian homes.
I built my own steamers to build the curved hand rails, face boards and such, I would get lost in replicating Molding, and yes I hade to make my own blades to match the profiles.
The gingerbread work on the exteriors and on and on.

I just ordered another fountain pen for a daily driver at work,
I have not bought yet but have been looking at dip pens,
some of the vintage and the hand made glass pieces really catch my attention.
I do listen to more than classical but way back when I was 17 and got pulled over after a helluva day at work with Peter Eötvös blasting....
Well I got out of the ticket with a lecture and a lot of head shaking on the officers part.

Times may have been harder but they were simpler and I yearn for that.
Family is all that keeps me grounded.

    Regards

    Pat

All I can say is Ahhhh. I resonate with that.
    You got it.
For Christmas my wife got me a beautiful glass ink bottle, a dipping pen, and it's just amazing.Little silver lid that swings open. So neat.
Sure, I'll listen to music that was of my time. Say, Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughn,,etc. But I always go back to the classics. Then too , aren't they?
