Default Wade & Butcher "WASP" (slightly less than original......)

I saw this nasty blade and had to buy it. someone had apparently attempted a regrind in the past and it ended a bit rough and uneven. the tang was more pitted and corroded than can be seen in the pics, especially the tail. since it needed a substantial overhaul I decided to have fun. a lot of you will not like the next post so you want to turn away.........

its all the material really, its layered G10, yellow and black alternating layers so all i did was contour the scales after profiling so the layers would reveal themselves. i tried to make them even. i don't always, sometimes i like to do more of a random texture with the layered g10, it reveals some pretty cool designs that way.

Any pics of the blade front on ? I'm wondering how much metal was removed from the spine & how many layers of tape it will take to hone it,assuming its not honed in the above pics.

take a look back at the b4 pics and you get a sense of things. a regrind had apparently been attempted and on the front side it went up tight to the spine, on the backside it was mostly in the middle of the blade. in addition the bevel was very uneven so i tightened it all up, rocking it on the 8" contact wheel to just get to the lowest point of the previous regrind. the bevel doesn't show well in my pics but i honed up to 8k before pics so that the polished bevel would stand out against the satin finished blade (didn't show obviously) and ill take it the rest of the way to either 12k or a thuri. i hate using anything more than 1 layer of tape, so i tightened up the bevel enough to just use one layer on this one.

I have thought about doing videos, but there are other members that do videos that are far superior to anything I could accomplish. ive seen some interesting blown glass pieces, very inspiring pieces for sure! its always fun to find different things in life to draw inspiration from. im always blown away by the ideas my oldest brother comes up with for designs, logos, etc. I like taking different materials and seeing whats "trapped" inside them, especially different woods. theres so much variety that every piece has something unique, very fun to experiment with

first some yellow & black G10 for the scales.... then since I wanted to get rid of the majority of the pitting I had to rework the tail slightly and decided to add a "stinger" hence the WASP was born! I ended up smoothing and evening out the rough regrind and gave it a satin finish on the blade faces, more of a polish on the tang and tail. I like the results but im ready for the onslaught of "why would you do that.....?"s bring it on!
