Default Wade & Butcher "WASP" (slightly less than original......)

I saw this nasty blade and had to buy it. someone had apparently attempted a regrind in the past and it ended a bit rough and uneven. the tang was more pitted and corroded than can be seen in the pics, especially the tail. since it needed a substantial overhaul I decided to have fun. a lot of you will not like the next post so you want to turn away.........

first some yellow & black G10 for the scales.... then since I wanted to get rid of the majority of the pitting I had to rework the tail slightly and decided to add a "stinger" hence the WASP was born! I ended up smoothing and evening out the rough regrind and gave it a satin finish on the blade faces, more of a polish on the tang and tail. I like the results but im ready for the onslaught of "why would you do that.....?"s bring it on!

I would never question your choices and applaud them. You took a beater and made it shave again. You made what you wanted with your razor. Cheers to that.

Stunning work. I love the "wasp" stinger, great way to do away with heavily pitted areas and come up with your own unique design. As stated, W&B blades are everywhere so turning it into something unique is always nice.

    great save indeed
love the green and the way the scale lines came out
i like how the rest of the blade was shot looking but the stamp was nearly complete still
    Saved,
    to shave another day.

that's the one thing that's disappointing to me, I went real light on the makers mark but after removing the rust it looked so trashed! from the pics you cant tell but it was a lot ighter of a stamp than it looks. the before pics look like the stamp was nice and deep but it was so light it almost wiped right off from gingerly removing the rust. unfortunate. but the rest i went at it, reground on an 8" contact wheel, evened out the bevels a bit, satin finished like i said but then went back and polished up the tang.
the G10 is actually yellow, but it always comes out looking green when layered with the black. definitely not as yellow as the solid yellow g10 i used for the wedge.

its funny, it gave me an idea for some of my customs. such a simple little detail but the whole custom design will revolve around that little detail!
though these, wostenholms and others are very prolific i try to only play around with blades if they have lost the originality to begin with, if the blade has been severely chipped, cracked, corroded or otherwise altered previously.

You took a beater and made it shine again. Considering what you had to work with, it turned out great. Excellent work!
The older I get the more I realize how little I actually know.
