Thanked: 2284Freddie hump back in Buckeye burl.
Just wrapped this up 5 min ago. It's a 13/16ths Frederick Reynolds, rattler, faux frame back, hump back. Did I get them all?
After doing a bunch of brushes out of this same burl, and seeing how gorgeous this stuff is, I had to do a razor with some. It couldn't be just any blade either, had to be something just as gorgeous. Freddie hump back was the perfect blade.
What we have here is Buckeye burl backed with Wenge veneer for added strength. The black "eyes" I cleaned out and filled with black tinted epoxy. Then into the vacuum chamber to force in marine teak oil. 6 coats of polyurethane spray, Tagua nut wedge, SS washers, nickel silver pins and Bob's yer uncle.
Now I just have to do the most important part, the edge.

Thanked: 580That came out very nice. Did the veneer add much in the way of strength?

Very nice outcome. I have had a few of those and they are remarkable shavers. Well Done!

Thanked: 2284I have this 1" coticule that just continues to put great edges on my blades. This one turned out to be an easy hone. Thank the Lord, the past few have been difficult. This one may bump out my current fav.
I have 3 days growth that's taunting this blade. I'll report back in 30 mins.Burls, Girls, and all things that Swirl....

Holy cow! You did a stunning job on that blade...you got the perfect storm...those scales and that polish look perfect to me.
Going to send this link to Valery, I can think of a blade or two that might look great with scales like that.
Thanks!

Thanked: 2284Phrank,
I'm sure Val could do amazing things with some of this buckeye. His work is flawless, and unique which I really like. The seller on Ebay that I get it from is onemill101. He usually has lots for sale, but I try and wait until he has some that's highly figured. I must warn anyone who attempts to use Buckeye burl, it is VERY soft.Burls, Girls, and all things that Swirl....
