Thread: Resuited L.Holzhauer's Sons

G’day all,
finished this up on the weekend
was a bare blade when received in need of a bit of attention & a re-suiting

Blade: L. Holzhauer's sons
stamped - Magnetic, Made in Germany" &, "L. Holzhauer's sons Troy NY
the blade is a touch over 11/16”
Full double hollow ground,
Square point (not a spike point)

Work performed
Blade hand sanded back to 320 grit then through to 5000 grit then hand polished with Autosol
there is still some minor blemishes on the blade, so is not quite a true mirror but highly polished

Scales: new Black Buffalo Horn– hand shaped & sanded to 5000 grit then hand polished with a furniture polish & finally Ren wax
Wedge: new Brass hand shaped & sanded to 5000 grit then hand polished
Pins & Washers: Brass 1/16” pins & hand domed washers - #0 wide at wedge & #0 narrow at pivot
Thrust washers: Brass cut from new 10 thou shim


Honing:
1k Naniwa bevel set as required
4k/8k Norton polishing 40 laps each
12k Naniwa Finisher 40 laps each
0.3 Chrox 15 laps very light
0.1 Ferrox 15 laps very light
Hard pressed felt 50 laps
English Bridle 100 laps

passes the HHT over full length of blade
shave tested smooth last night

I'm rather happy with how it came out
