Thanked: 10Mockingjay
This started out as a rusty duck. I wasn't sure what I was getting into, but it turned out pretty nice.

Nice job. Looks like it had a case of celluloid rot. Have you honed it see if it will be good to go?

Thanked: 10Thank you.
I'm going to reprofile (rebevel) it at a higher angle. The spine is 17 degrees relative to the edge, and I did detect significant spine wear. I'm going to try a new bevel at 21 degrees, check the width of the bevel at 21, and adjust down if necessary to get the bevel width that I like.
I will post the results.

Thanked: 10Here is a pic of the blade cleaned up before assembly. The rust turned out to be superficial. The edge was saw-toothed, but nothing deep. 6/8 DD special no. 1

Thanked: 10Here is the finale. I reprofiled it at 19 degrees to get the bevel width I wanted. The bevel is now straight as a die and polished to 0.1 micron iron-oxide on balsa. I grade HHT and treetopping tests on a scale of 1-10 (I know this is subjective and controversial, ha). This one is 11/10. ++BBS. Really glad I took the plunge on the rusty duck.
