Wostenholm Frameback
MY FIRST FRAMEBACK...
Got this off the bay a while ago.
Just got around to having some time to mess with it.
It was advertised having bone scales but It didn't look like it had any washers on the pins.
I THINK it is IVORY
Anyways there was a little chip in the blade so I honed that out and then gave it a quick clean up.
Didn't want to go FULL mirror on this one.
Pinned it without washers (my FIRST time doing this) It was kinda scary but it turned out pretty good I think.
Now to hone it up and see how it shaves...

Sure as heck looks like Ivory to me. Ivory scales are usually very thin and don't show the dark spotting that bone does. Fabulous find and I like how it turned out, congratulations.

I have a razor with ivory scales and it is going to be a challenge to get it cleaned up, but first I must find a razor to replace the one that was butchered with a grinder. You should be proud of the job you did with that one, how does it shave?

A good job to take pride in and a razor to shave the ages!
Wonderful work and razor! They shave a treat also!

Thanked: 4827I have a couple of frame backs in Ivory too, they have not made it to the top of the things to do pile yet. They are in the boxes of future projects. Not to be confused with the box of unfinished projects. How was your prep before pinning, as in did you taper the hole or just use the existing one without changing it at all? I have a couple to do in my unfinished projects box and have been dragging my feet out of fear. There was a great tutorial here recently that got me a little more comfortable with the process. I have to say I hope yours shaves as nice as it looks. You have done well.

Thanks Shaun!
I am getting those pile of boxes now also.
I used the existing holes for pining.
Like most everything I do I just try what I think is going to work.
Not that we have the most informative resource to look things up right here!
I usually remember AFTER I mess something up to actually look and see HOW it is SUPPOSED to be done!
9 times out of 10 I get lucky.
