    Default OCD Experiment...a Short Longhorn?

I have been toying with the idea of making a few razors with shorter edges. I don't know why. I have a couple half done with a shorter blade, from the toe end. I thought I would also try one with a shortened edge from the heel end. Just curious on how they would hone, strop and shave I guess. So here's the first one. I know its a little odd looking.

It's an 7/8's swayback 3 pinner with finger and thumb notches, no jimps or file work. The spine instead has been given a molten metal effect. Kind of a nugget look. Grind is full hollow with a semi-gloss finish.

Scales are blonde Texas Longhorn from a taxidermy place in Waco. Rode the Iron Horse up there to pick them up, nice trip. There is a lot of work involved with turning a curved piece of horn into flat scales. Wedge is aluminum.

I am going to hone it in a little while the shave with it tonight. I'll let you know.

    as always, thanks for looking

    My cumpliments, Boballman.
I am a kind of person who likes the aspect of the razors smooth as glass, straight lined, you know... "cleaner=better", but I have to express my admiration for this fine and beautiful razor.
You, man, have style! Not only the blade is awesome in its rustic aspect, I think you could't choose a better material for the scales. They are a perfect match!
Would be a pleasure to shave with it!

Well, Bob, you might be a little prejudiced in shave testing that. You COULD drop it off for me to do an objective test sequence!

I love how the spine turned out. Someone's sure to be happy.

Tom, just honed it. The bevel on this one is so small and true that I have to put on my cheaters to see it. It honed to hair popping in no time at all. I'll shave tonight, BUT if you make it to my house before 7pm then you can have the honors.

I like everything about it Bob. It is a remarkable treat to look at and I am sure the shave will be superb.

That is one cool razor. The molten metal effect is purely spectacular. The only thing I would have done differently if I were you would be to have put it in the mail with my address on it.
