Dos Gencos
On occasion, I dig around the workbench and come up with something good, if not different.
A few weeks ago, I drug out 4 Genevas. 2 which had some cool celluloid scales which had shown no signs of deterioration, and 2 super-nice 6/8 blades in slick-black scales. I don't know when Geneva quit using collars, but one blade with 1903 in the pyramid, came with collars. The other, later razor, with 7N in it's pyramid (whatever that means?) was pinned collarless. Since The crazy orange Geneva scale donor was with collars and the black and white striped one was collarless, I kept the theme.
I unpinned everything at the top and a few weeks passed. Every day I would micromesh on down to remove tiny scratches, etc, esp inside the scales on the orange ones. Seemed the more I polished them inside and out, the more they popped. Finally, I yanked the magnifier off my head and could no longer see the scratches. Enough was enough!
The blades were super-nice, so a little light buff and polish was all needed. I got the orange one with the collars pinned up nicely.......ummmm.....WOW! Can't lose THAT!
Matching the 'Stamped" Genco collarless pins has always been impossible for me, but I keep trying! The top pin hole on the back side was sunken from the force of the original peening when new. I pulled out the drill chuck which threads on my peening anvil (seldom used) and proceeded to make a thick, yet not too wide peen for that side. I left it pointy, so I could use it to flatten out and tighten things up. I then annealed the other side of the pin after sizing so I could shape it easily and not effect my pre-peened side too much (I hoped!).
So all said and done, the match on the pins was not perfect, but better as I took off the magnifier visor!
It is surely tight!
Now, I realize these may not be everyone's cup-O-tea, but I like them. Back to a time when flash, pizzazz, and color were new. Thanks for looking!Last edited by sharptonn; 09-12-2014 at 03:02 AM.

Tom my friend I don't know whether I should thank you for that great work or hate you for being able to do what I can not!
Very, Very Nice Work My Friend! :Our house is as Neil left it- an Aladdin’s cave of 'stuff'.

Thanked: 10Very very nice. It's great to think that something that showed pizzazz and color when new can evoke the same responses these many years later. Well done!

I like them, a lot...think they turned out fantastic...I particularly like the one with the pin-stripe scales, and the finish suits the blade nicely.
Excellent Tom, excellent!

Great job with those, Tom! They both pop a lot. Both are great looking razors but I must agree with the striped scales really catching my eye. Enjoy em, eh?!
