    Default Bambi hidden by leaves

    Just completed my latest razor.
This is 8/8 near wedge swayback in deer antler. Bottom jimps with vine and leaf spine work. Wedge is aluminium, finish near mirror.
Don't know if you can see the bevel due to my photography and the finish but There is one there.
    Thanks for looking.

    Joe

Could you tell me a bit more about the deer antler, like what type it is and how it was processed ????

Nice! And I thought this thread was going to be about wildlife photography. I like it a lot.
It's not what you know, it's who you take fishing!

Very nice, I think this is the first time I've ever seen deer antler used as scales, and I've looked at many knives and razors... I love it, beautiful work!

Thanks fellas for your encouraging comments.
I've had the antler shed about 5 years given to me by a relative and finally got round to cutting it. Don't know what type of deer but would have to be native to the UK. I've not worked with antler before but it was tricky cutting it to get slabs large enough for scales. As for getting them flat enough, quite a bit of the bark on the outside was removed. The inside as you can see is a black spalted kind of porous tissue. which encroached into the slab. I drenched the insides with low viscosity CA which seemed to wick into and seal the black stuff. There on in I used the undream method for making scales. As bone goes this stuff seemed quite dense and the outside polished up to a high shine simply by going through the sandpaper grits and finished with mass polish. I keep them well coated with mineral oil as I know from experience natural materials can be problematic if they get to dry.
