Certainly, the blade face was lightly re-ground at some point, and nicely done at that, But the tang and spine do NOT look to me as though they were re-structured as you believe...your 'sophisticated (?) software notwithstanding... I've seen a few and I don't believe this is a candidate for your conjecture.

It's a real shame we'll never know Science Guy, but such is the nature of the hobby...

    It's a Great Shaver...regardless!
Sophisticated software is sarcastic for Paint

Here's another example, another Greaves, same story, reground into a more modern shape (and very obviously reground on the blade face). Note where the jimps disappear at the angle change on the top of the tang. If you look at other razors of similar period/style, there is not this harsh angle change; either straight or a hump. Does that help in convincing?

Sarcasm noted! I was wondering there...

As to the razor you have pictured...I certainly concur that the jimps have been ground off and the spine has been altered. Holding my razor at this moment in my hands...I'm not sure if this razor has undergone the same re-construction or not...although it does appear similar. The mis-aligned makers mark theory still holds some weight in my mind, as I have seen many examples of 'stamps' from the past that have been off center, and quite of few of those were stamped lower on the tang (as opposed to higher on the tang like my razor) so the bottom part was barely visible.

IF the blade profile was re-structured as you suggest...it was very professionally done. Your assumption however does appear to have a sound basis.

NOW...I have to go look through my boxes of razors from the period to see what I can see as far as 'humps vs. sharper angles'. DRAT! Another project!

    Appreciate the input...

Whether it was reground or not, the restoration jobs look really good and time correct. Now i just want to say a liittle something about the pin job, looks absolutely fantastic! Enjoy!

I'm often amazed at some of the post-production work out there. And, as I failed to mention in the last post, I particularly like the restoration here - very clean.

Thanks Martin! I was hoping you noticed the 'pins', which I am loath to admit are absent in most of my prior posts pictures. I appreciate the 'Thumbs Up'!

Thanks Science Guy! I appreciate the kind comments a good deal, as well as your knowledge, and your ability to back up your knowledge concisely... with pictures no less!...and consistently.
