W&B “Commerce Strength & Unity”
Hot of the workbench is this Wade & Butcher “Commerce Strength & Unity” etched razor
The details:
Blade: A very big thanks to Tom for this beautiful blade,
it’s a W&B 13/16” Scalloped spined, Barbers notched with a “Commerce Strength & Unity” etching
Scales: the blade was received naked, so after a bit of deliberation I decided to try my hand with some bone blanks I have had for a while,
the blanks were 1” x 5/32” x 8” (from Robsbits of the bay)
the shape is freehand which I roughed out then ground to the final shape on my bench grinder.
Note: copped a bit of flack off SWMBO about the stink from doing that so not allowed to do that again I the garage, the dogs were loving it but LOL
I then proceeded to thin them down by sanding them from 180 grit to 2000 on my glass plate I use for lapping my hones until i liked the thickness, they came out at about 2.1mm (about 1/12”)
Wedge: the wedge is black Buffalo horn with Brass 10 thou” shim liners
Fixings: Brass pins & #0 wide washers stacked with Stainless #0 narrow washers
thrust washers are from brass 10 thou” shim also
It is now on the honing list with a Genco, to see if I can do it some more justice then I can compare it to my W&B scalloped “American Razor” 6/8” square point
hope you enjoy it as I sure do
again a really big thanks to Tom for the blade it is greatly appreciatedSaved,

Thanked: 1587Nice! I like the "commerce strength and unity". Do you know what that refers to? Sounds union-y to me, but the "commerce" bit maybe not so much.
In any event, nice razor and nice rescale.

Nice work, Mate!
The old beast is heavy and worn, but wound up killer! Banners of England and United States.
Sez "Commerce and Strength United". I used to shave with that beast some!
Made the mistake of letting it show in a photo of something else. Naturally, it had to go down under! 2 layers of tape, now!Last edited by sharptonn; 11-27-2014 at 02:23 AM.
