Thanked: 237First Light Box Photoshoot!
So I made my first light box for photographing razors. I just did a full custom restore on this wade and butcher 6/8. Its a pretty basic razor, didn't need much work to clean up. It has some light spots on one side, the other side is almost perfect. The scales i made from a horn blank, i took a picture of an example blank. The wedge is red acrylic. I would welcome all criticism on this restore. I am relatively new, but i am hooked. I am really happy with how it all came out and really ecstatic with the pics as well! Thanks for looking.

Thanked: 129I think it will spoil your collection, just send it to me and I'll dispose of it humanely!
Seriously it looks great, having cleaned several up myself I know the work you must have put in particularly making the scales look that good. Good job.One of the greatest gifts is to impart wisdom through experience.

You did a fantastic job restoring the razor. Your photographs are good. Did you use a tripod or flash?

Looks really nice!
NITPICKING as follows:
The great part about restoring and making your own scales is you can fit them PERFECTLY to your razor.
I would have shortened them a little bit more to get the blade as close to the wedge as possible.
Also I would have made a WEDGE not a spacer.
At least it looks like a spacer, I could be wrong.
This really is not saying it looks bad because it doesn't!
It turned out SUPER nice!
Your pinning looks super clean also!
REALLY A NICE JOB!

Great restore job the work is very good
Gotta agree with Tom I also tend to make the scales as short as possible ( just my preference also)
Great photo shoot, the shots came out great,
just need to rotate the blade more instead of the camera so you keep the solid background and don't get the out of the box area in the shots,
This makes me want to make a light box also.
We always love the razor porn LOL
Great job all roundSaved,
to shave another day.

Thanked: 237I also hate people who make spacers, and I assure you this is a wedge. I should have shortened the scales to fit the blade better, I over compensated for my last set which contacted the wedge. I'm currently making a second set of scales for a very similar razor only it's a Joseph rodgers. Should be done this weekend. Both will be going on ebay, so keep an eye out if you like them! The pictures were taken with no flash. I only have one lamp so light was from the top only, not from each side which is recommended. I was using a tripod but it was too constricting with getting the light reflections just right, so almost all were free handed. Thanks for all the likes and tips, I will more than likely start offering honing and restoration services after a few more restores. I keep getting very positive comments on my edges, and I have just ordered a suehiro gokumyo 20k

Try experimenting with your flash and light box. See what kind of results you receive. Getting great pictures takes a lot of trial and error. It all comes down to getting the lighting correct in order to make your photographs POP.

My photos STINK!
I NEED to do better with the light box.
Heck I even got the LED light bulb and everything but they still are sub par...
