    What matters is what the heat treat method was. If the tang was treated with the rest of the blade you need heat. If it was dipped in lead and the tang was out you got a 50/50 chance it won't break. Your decision is wise :<0) At least until you can no longer live with it. Then I would go with Charlie's idea.


    Anyway how did the honing go ? If you haven't, just go slow with confidence and pay attention to what works :<0)
